Scientifically known as Cordia verbenacea, Erva Baleeira can also be called Maria-Preta, Pimenteira, Maria-Milagrosa, Catinga-de-Barão, Erva-Preta, Salicina, Balieira, Salicina. Although native to the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, it can be easily found throughout the country, especially in São Paulo and Santa Catarina, areas with higher humidity. It is considered by many to be a simple weed because it spreads easily.
